Killer chocolate

April 17th, 2008 by chris

Just thought I would post some interesting links to info about chocolate and dogs:

A 7 week old puppy weighs approx 1KG. A fully grown cairn weighs about 4-8KG.

Please see this page for information about the amounts of chocolate that can be poisonous:

  • 60g per kg of body weight for milk chocolate.
  • 30g per 1.5 kg body weight for semi-sweet chocolate.
  • 30g per 4 kg for cooking chocolate.

The article link to above also points out that grapes and onions can be toxic to dogs too.

2 weeks old

March 15th, 2008 by chris

The puppies are just about two weeks old - and some have started to open their eyes. They still spend most of their time sleeping - but they are moving around a lot more now and one or two have escaped the whelping box this week.

We’re expecting them all to open their eyes over the next few days - and their ears should clear too so they can start to hear the world… And then our house will be overtaken by mischevious puppies!

We’ve taken a few shots - and put together another gallery:

Litter doing well

March 9th, 2008 by chris

The litter have been feeding and sleeping a lot for the past few days - they’re so quiet we hardly notice they are there! It’s amazing how much they’ve grown in the last few days. Lili is eating 5 full 400g tins of food every day, in comparison she would usually eat 1 tin per day! It just shows how much energy these puppies need.
